Vacation Hair Don't Care
Summer is our favorite time of year, right after Halloween. Longer days are perfect for walking the doggos along the Bay and through the Berkeley hills, but sun, wind, and salty sea air can torture our tresses, and don't get me started on chlorine.
Luckily, we've got great natural products nowadays to protect our precious hairs and keep things under control when we visit more humid climes. Here are our top tips to maintain your radiant locks this summer.
1. Dad's Favorite - Wear a Hat
Did you know your hair can be damaged by UV rays just like your skin? It's true, and research shows that hair can lose up to 25% of its moisture due to sun exposure. The best thing you can do to protect your hair from the sun is wear a hat. It's great for your skin, too.
2. Leave-in Conditioner Before the Pool or Beach
Leave-ins help fill in porous areas of the cuticle to prevent absorption of salt and chlorine, and they also add a protective layer on top of the strand to keep hair soft, manageable, and easy to detangle.
Two of our favorite natural, cruelty-free options are DeDe hair mist from Davines and Aveda's cream Cherry Almond Leave-in Conditioner.
Davines's Natural Tech Nourishing Keratin Sealer goes a step beyond and is designed for hair that is already dry and damaged.
3. Add Extra Moisture in the Shower
Make sure you keep a deep conditioner on hand in the shower. Let it sit and penetrate while you take care of business. We love the Circle Masks from Davines. There's one for every hair type, and they come in a travel friendly compostable pouch.
4. Travel with Back Up
Don't get stuck with whatever they have on sale at the drugstore. Davines travel size products let you bring your favorite shampoo and conditioner along for the ride. Two great additions to your travel style kit are This is a primer, which fights humidity while adding natural shine. This is a sea salt spray adds beachy texture and a soft hold for a totally natural look.
